Colombo ASI lost 58.49 to close at 6751.29 while Milanka index closed 64.26 points lower at 6152.23. Japan's Nikkei dips below key 9,300 mark before finding support. According to the Reuters, Japanese stocks on Friday tumbled to their lowest since the post quake rout in March 2011 as investors ran for exits after the worsening financial crisis in Europe compounded anxiety over a weak U.S. economy that has come close to stalling.
CSE total turnover for the day amounted to Rs 1.17 billion rupees. There were 167 negative contributors and only 37 gainers for the day. Ceylon Guardian Investment Trust Plc lost 17.10 to close at Rs 322.80 while Expolanka lost fifty cents to close at Rs 13.20 mainly due to lower than expected results for the June quarter. Expolanka earnings amounted to 15 cents per share for the last quarter. Distilleries Company of Sri Lanka Plc has announced dividend of Rs 2.50 per share but closed one rupee lower at Rs 172.00.
Eastern Merchants Plc closed at Rs 3025.90 and became the today's biggest gainer by gaining 1023.50. E B Creasy and Company Plc was up by 190.40 to close at Rs 1799.90. Carsons was up by 6.80 to end the day at RS 607.00
Foreign investors were net sellers with net outflow of Rs 65,955,165.00.
