Sri Lanka World Logistic Performance improved from 137 to 81 in worldwide
Sri Lanka’s logistics sector’s international ranking has improved from 137 to 81 in the World Bank logistic performance index of 2012.
Sri Lanka has made progress in this index thanks to the improvements it has made in areas such as customs, infrastructure, international shipments, logistics quality and competence, tracking, tracing and timeliness.
The ratings, which is being conducted once in every two years, is based on 6,000 individual country assessments by nearly 1,000 international freight forwarders, who rates the eight foreign countries their company serves most frequently.
The World Bank’s logistic point index focuses on six components.
Among them ranks areas such as,
- Efficiency of the clearance process by border control agencies
- The quality of trade and transport-related infrastructure
- The ease of arranging competitively priced shipments
- The competence and quality of logistics services
- The ability to track and trace
- Consignments etc.
Commenting on Sri Lanka’s achievement, Harin Malwatte, Secretary General/CEO of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce stated “Sri Lanka has moved 56 places up from 2010 in the ranking. This is a result of the considerable investments made in improving country’s logistics and infrastructure”.
He also says, being ranked 81 also means there is definitely room for improvement.
