Japan Assist Rural Development

The Japanese government assist rural development projects, Japan provided US$ 42,055 for rural development projects in the Ampara district.


"Under this grant, seven tube wells and drinking water systems in two remote schools will be constructed and agricultural trainings and bee keeping tools will be provided in three villages of the Uhana DS division, Ampara.
"Around 170 families and 600 students and teachers will benefit from the project," said Japanese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Nobuhito Hobo.


He was addressing the media after the signing of the grant contract between the Japanese Embassy and Peragamana Guild yesterday at the Ambassador's Residence.

According to the Ambassador, the project is funded under the Grant Assistance Grassroots Human Security Project Scheme(GGP)and would improve the standards of the communities in terms of human security.
He said that Japan has been working together with the government and the people to facilitate socio economic development of Sri Lanka in addition to GGP projects.

"Our cooperation ranges from infrastructural development at the national level. Rural development is an indispensable component for the development of a country, the Ambassador said.
Peragamana Guild Chairperson Dharma S. Samaranayake said the project will help enhance the living standards of rural villages.

Japanese Embassy Second Secretary Kayo Imamura, GGP Consultant Lasantha Jayawardane and Economic Cooperation Secretary Sunila de Alwis also participated.
