All transmission towers and power distribution systems are to be renovated at a cost of US $ 650 million. The project will be initiated with the financial sponsorship of the Asian Development Bank and concessionary loans from the Chinese government.
The project will be completed within three years, Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said.
“The government has planned to provide electricity to all in the country, regarding it as its duty. “Sri Lanka's electricity consumption is 94 percent and Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has provided an uninterrupted 24 hour power supply.
“The demand for power has increased with the massive development drives. Therefore, it is time to renovate all the power centres, the minister said.
