No power Cut add 500MV

The temporary power cuts imposed countrywide were lifted from yesterday evening following the resumption of operations at the Lak Vijaya Power Station in Puttalam.

A Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) official said the power station added 300 MW power to the national grid yesterday.

The official said the CEB was compelled to impose islandwide power cuts in three stages with the unexpected breakdown at the Lak Vijaya Power Station and Kerawalapitiya Thermal Power Plant.

The Kerawalalapitiya Power Station also added 200 MW power to the national grid on Wednesday and another 100 MW is to be added by July 30.

Power and Energy Minister Patali Champaka Ranawaka inspected the two power stations at Puttalam and Kerawalapitiya and instructed officials to expedite the resumption of operations.
